Want to see an active volcano with your own eyes?
After a series of earthquakes in Reykjanes peninsula in the Southwest of Iceland, the volcanic system in Fagradalsfjall mountain started to erupt on March 19th 2021. Lava started to burst through a several hundred meters long crack and has since been flowing continuously into the Geldingadalur and Merardalir valleys.
The eruption is no threat to the population, houses or infrastructure even though this is happening only 40 km from the city of Reykjavík. This has of course drawn thousands of people to the area, to see this incredible and maybe once in a lifetime sight, with own eyes but this is the first eruption in the area in nearly 800 years.
