The post-tour focuses on the fertile Borgarfjörður region and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, known for its rich farming culture, historic settlements, and coastal beauty. Guests will discover local farms, taste regional specialties, and experience Iceland’s western landscapes and folklore.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Mon 19 Oct | Borgarfjörður, West Iceland (170 km) (L/D)

Our post tour to the western part of Iceland begins with a drive from Reykjavík to Hvanneyri, home to the Agricultural University of Iceland. This institute plays a crucial role in addressing societal issues related to agriculture, natural resource management, environmental planning, and climate, and broader societal and economic concerns.

At noon we´ll enjoy lunch at the Rock´n´Troll restaurant in Fossatún which sits on a riverbank next to a picturesque waterfall. After lunch, a short stop at Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe, which spouts 180 liters per second (about 47.55 gallons)!

Next, we´ll visit to Grímsstaðir, a sheep and horse farm that also houses a meat processing facility. Following this, we´ll marvel at the stunning Hraunfossar waterfalls before heading to Háafell goat farm. Here we´ll have the opportunity to meet and pet the goats after the farmer shares with us information on the Icelandic goat breed and the farm´s various products including cheeses, leather goods and skin care items.

For those interested, there will be an optional stop at Krauma Geothermal Spa for a relaxing soak in the natural geothermal baths before proceeding to Hotel Varmaland for check-in.

Day 2 – Tue 20 Oct | Snæfellsnes Peninsula (270 km) (B/L/D)

  • Drive via Grundarfjörður & Ólafsvík under Snæfellsjökull glacier

The following day we will whisk you off to the picturesque village of Stykkishólmur for a boat tour in the spectacular Breiðafjörður bay with its shallow seas and countless islands where we will get to taste delicacies fresh from the ocean.

We will enjoy lunch and a visit the Shark Museum in Bjarnarhöfn before continuing our journey under the towering glacier Snæfellsjökull as we drive through the charming villages of Grundarfjörður and Ólafsvík, arriving at the Visitor Center for Snæfellsjökull National Park in Hellissandur. Here we will learn about the natural and cultural history of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula through various exhibits.

After a short drive, we will stop for a walk to the pebble beaches of Djúpalón, followed by a visit to the old village of Arnarstapi and its monumental shoreline.

Overnight and dinner in Hotel Langaholt. A family-run country hotel with comfortable rooms and an excellent restaurant with a view to Snæfellsnesjökull glacier.

Day 3 – Wed 21 Oct | Borgarnes & Hvalfjörður (240 km) (B/L/D)

  • Settlement Center, Borgarnes (Settlement Exhibition)
  • Akranes town
  • Bjarteyjarsandur farm (farm tour & lunch)
  • Return to Reykjavík
  • Overnight & dinner: Berjaya Reykjavík Natura Hotel

Today we will make our way back to Reykjavik with a few stops along the way. First, we´ll visit the Settlement Center in Borgarnes to get a glimpse of Iceland´s early history through the Settlement Exhibition. Then, we´ll head towards the town of Akranes, followed by a visit to Bjarteyjarsandur farm, beautifully situated on the coast of Hvalfjörður bay with a lovely seashore.

We will enjoy lunch and an introduction to the farm, which has been home to the same family since 1887. It is owned and operated by three different sections of the family, each specializing in various fields such as farming, tourism, education, food processing, and machine work. After our visit, we´ll return to Reykjavík.

Day 4 – Thu 22 Oct | Departures (B)
