Three cottages that sleep four each in double bunk beds (15 m2 / 161.5 ft2), and eight cottages that sleep four each in double bunk beds and have an extra bed or sofa bed as well (20 m2 / 215.3 ft2). The cottages are self-catered. There are nice restaurants in the area, which all emphasise locally sourced fresh ingredients. Both restaurant Fjósið at farm Hólmi (1.7 km / 1 mi) and Brunnhóll (2.2 km / 1.4 mi) come warmly recommended. The nearest supermarket is in town Höfn í Hornafirði (30 km / 18 mi), where you’ll also find more restaurants.

Hikes in the Ósland reservation. Museums in Höfn, like the Höfn Glacier Museum, where you’ll also find the local tourism information centre. Day trips to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon (48 km / 30 mi), to Skaftafell National Park (103 km / 64 mi) or to Lón, a paradise for any nature lover and hiker (52 km / 32 mi). Horse rental at Árnanes (24 km / 15 mi). A nine-hole golf course, Silfurnesvöllur course, just outside town Höfn, which is also the nearest town where you’ll find shops and restaurants, a swimming pool, tour operators and a range of services (30 km / 18.5 mi).
Just by the southern parameter of Vatnajökull National Park
Lambhús are centrally located in the Hornafjörður area and just by the Ring Road, where it passes through the Mýrar region. An extraordinary world of mountains and icefalls from glacier Vatnajökull overlooks the lowlands. Glacier Fláajökull is Lambhús’s neighbour (10 km / 6 mi) and you can reach the glacier and the popular outdoor area by driving along a gravel path. On a hike to the glacier, you’ll be able to see clearly just how much the country has been shaped by the glacier over centuries past, as well as enjoy the varied flora and fauna along this unforgettable trail.
Hikes, snowmobile tours, quad tours
The next icefall to Fláajökull is Heinabergsjökull, reachable by a gravel road. The facilities for hikers are quite good and you’ll have a choice between a few interesting trails. To the west is Skálafellsjökull glacier, and you can join daily, guided snowmobile tours if you want to explore the glacier. You can also hike along its foothills. Other interesting close to Lambhús stops along the southern foothills of glacier Vatnajökull are the forestry Haukafell, or Hoffellsjökull and the surrounding area. At farm Hoffell (18 km / 11 mi), you can join a quad tour along Hoffellsjökull.
Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, Skaftafell National Park, Lón
Lambhús are ideally located if you want to tour southwest Iceland. The renowned glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón is only 48 km / 30 mi west, and one of Iceland’s most popular outdoor attractions, national park Skaftafell, is only about 100 km / 62 mi away. If you travel east from Lambhús, stop in town Höfn and explore the glacier museum or walk along the Ósland reservation. For a great view over fjord Hornafjörður and the southern part of glacier Vatnajökull, head to Almannaskarð east of town. A little further east you’ll find Lón (52 km / 32 mi), which is a charming stop for those who crave the tranquillity and natural beauty you can only experience on a quiet hike along a colourful and magnificent countryside.
