Accommodation
Three cottages that sleep four each in double bunk beds (15 m2 / 49 ft2), and eight cottages with additional bed or sofa bed as well (20 m2 / 65.6 ft2), sleeping 4-5 people. Kitchenette with hot plates, a fridge and a coffee maker. Bathroom with shower in all cottages. Free Wi-Fi.
Board
The cottages have kitchen facilities for self-catering. There are nice restaurants in the area, which all emphasise locally sourced fresh ingredients. Both restaurant Fjósið at Hólmur farm (1.7 km/1 mi) and Brunnhóll (2.2 km/1.4 mi) come highly recommended. The nearest supermarket is in the town of Höfn (30 km/18 mi), where you’ll also find more restaurants.
Service and recreation
Domestic animals at Lambleiksstaðir farm: horses, cattle, poultry, geese and a dog. Marked hiking trails in Vatnajökull National Park, bird watching and nature trails in the Ósland conservation area. Petting zoo at Hólmur (1.7 km/1 mi), playground & duck pond as well as guided evening tours to the sea shore. Glacier tours to Skálafellsjökull glacier (15 km/9 mi) and quad tours along glacier Hoffellsjökull (18 km/11 mi). Hot tubs at Hoffell (18 km/11 mi). Silfurnesvöllur, a nine-hole golf course, located just outside the town of Höfn(30 km/18.5 mi) which is also the nearest town where you’ll find and a range of services. Museums such as the Höfn Glacier Museum, shops, restaurants, a swimming pool, tour operators and toursism information center. Horse rental at Árnanes (24 km/15 mi). Day trips to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon (48 km/30 mi), Skaftafell National Park (103 km/64 mi) or Lón, a paradise for any nature lovers and hikers (52 km/32 mi).
Just by the southern parameter of Vatnajökull National Park
Lambhús is centrally located in the Hornafjörður area just off the Ring Road, where it passes through the Mýrar region. An extraordinary world of mountains, icefalls from glacier Vatnajökull, overlooking the lowlands. Glacier Fláajökull is Lambhús’s neighbour (10 km/6 mi), you can reach it´s popular outdoor recreational area by gravel road. On a hike to the glacier, you’ll be able to see clearly just how much the country has been shaped by the glacier over the past centuries, as well as enjoying the varied flora and fauna along this unforgettable trail.
Hikes, snowmobile tours, quad tours
The next icefall to Fláajökull is Heinabergsjökull, reachable by a gravel road. Well equipped hikers have several interesting trails to choose from. To the west is Skálafellsjökull glacier, you can hike along it´s foothills or join daily, guided snowmobile tours if you prefer. Other interesting stops along the southern foothills of glacier Vatnajökull, in the vicinity of Lambhús, is the forestry of Haukafell and Hoffellsjökull glacier and the surrounding area. At farm Hoffell (18 km/11 mi), you can join a quad tours along Hoffellsjökull.
Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, Skaftafell National Park, Lón
Lambhús is ideally located if you want to tour the southwest regions of Iceland. The renowned glacial lagoon, Jökulsárlón, is only 48 km/30 mi to the west, and one of Iceland’s most popular outdoor attractions, national park Skaftafell, is about 100 km/62 mi away. If you travel east from Lambhús, stop in town Höfn and explore the glacier museum or walk along the Ósland reservation. For a great view over the fjord of Hornafjörður and the southern part of glacier Vatnajökull, head to Almannaskarð east of town. A little further east you’ll find Lón (52 km/32 mi), which is a charming stop for those who crave tranquillity and natural beauty you can only experience on a quiet hike along a colourful and magnificent countryside.
