Itinerary

Day 1 | South Iceland

Pick up your rental car at Keflavík airport upon arrival. Need a relaxing time after your flight (depending on your arrival time)? Soak in the milky waters of the Blue Lagoon, 20 minutes only from Keflavík Airport, the perfect way to unwind before you hit the road. Head South and stop at the friendly villages of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri, renowned for their beautiful seashore and relaxed pace of life. Reach Hveragerði Town, where powerful steam vents can be seen rising from snowy grounds, a temple of geothermal energy. Join our partners Eldhestar or Sólhestar on a magical horseback riding tour across volcanic landscapes sprinkled with snow.

Accommodation in the Gullfoss/Geysir area.

Day 2 | The South Coast

Drive the ‘Golden Circle’, consisting of three of Iceland’s most stunning sights: Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Hot Spring area and Gullfoss Waterfall. Marvel at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss Waterfalls, as the sun reflects the winter light off the stream. Get your basic right about volcanos at Lava Centre museum in Hvolsvöllur and continue onwards to Vík. End the day with a visit to Dyrhólaey iconic arch, and a walk along Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, characterized by Reynisdrangar Stacks, visible out at sea.

Accommodation in the Vík area.

Day 3 | Vatnajökull National Park

Explore Skaftafell Reserve, part of Vatnajökull National Park, rich in contrasts from black snowy mountains and glacial rivers, to waterfalls and calm glaciers lagoons, and home to a variety of hiking trails. A little further East lie the magnificent Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. Check the aurora forecast and cloud coverage tonight, northern lights might be dancing for you!

TripAdvisor reviews

Amazing road trip! Icelandic Farm Holidays (as Hey Iceland was known then) was helpful in all the queries we had and all our bookings were done without hassle and our queries were answered no matter how small. Our stay and our trip to Iceland was great. People were friendly. We drove around 2600 Kms and there were hardly any hassles in figuring out our way. Would love to be back in Iceland sometime again!
