Whale Watching and Puffin Island

 
Conveniently located in Reykjavik’s old harbour, a three hour journey with the whale watching company Elding can bring you up close to whales in their natural habitat. This is an unforgettable trip into the world of whales and sea birds. On board are guides who tell you about your trip and describe what you can see and where to look, together with an introduction and safety guide. The whales most frequently seen on tours with Elding are the minke whales, humpback whales, dolphins and porpoises. Other species such as Orcas and Basking sharks are sometimes spotted. During the puffin season (May 15th-Aug 15th) we stop by one of the puffin colonies in Faxaflói bay to watch these characteristic birds.
 
Depending on the tide and sea the tour start or end the trip by going to either Akurey or Lundey to watch the puffins (May 15.-Aug 15.)   No two whale watching trips are the same, and can change due to sea conditions, weather and seasons.
 
For your comfort and warmth, we do advise you to wear your warmest clothes - hats, scarves, gloves etc – as it can get very cold, even on the warmest of days. Alternatively, you can sit inside the boat in the warmth, where you can watch the whales outside from large windows.

There are guides on every tour. Hot drinks and light refreshments on board. For your comfort and warmth, are special suits on board that you can lend. Guidance in German is available each Thursday from 15 May to 15 September.
