Accommodation in 12 beautiful and well-equipped cottages:
- 2-4 person studio cottages 28 m2) with twin beds and a sofa bed.
- 2-4 person 1-bedroom cottages (37 m2) with a sofa bed in living room.
- 2 person 1-bedroom cottages (37 m2)
The cottages all have wood flooring, bathroom with shower and hair dryer, kitchenette with microwave oven, stove and fridge, TV, WiFi, small veranda, and a charging station for electric cars.
Board
Guests can cook simple meals in the cottages. The nearest grocery store is in Hvolsvöllur (15 km). A few restaurants in the area suchas the town of Hvolsvöllur, at Hotel Selja (900 m), Hellishólar (10 km), Smáratún in Fljótshlíð (11 km), Hotel Rangá (21 km), Hotel Anna (22 km), The Old Cowshed (26).
Service and recreation
Smáratún in Fljótshlíð offers horse rental (11 km). The nearest golf course (18 holes) is at Hellishólar in Fljótshlíð. Other golf courses are at Þverárvöllur (14 km) and Strandarvöllur (22 km). Daily bus tours to Þórsmörk Valley offered from Hvolsvöllur (16 km) and to Landmannalaugar from Hella (29 km). Daily ferry trips to Westman Islands from Landeyjahöfn (18 km) (35 minutes.). The nearest town with geothermal swimming pool, shops and services is Hvolsvöllur (16 km).
Fantastic view over Stóri-Dímon
Brú Guesthouse is located just west of the mountain Stóri-Dímon (178 m). There are great hiking paths on and around the mountain and from the top, you have a breathtaking panoramic view of the area. At the base of the mountain, you will find a sign with information about events from Njal’s Saga that took place by Stóri-Dímon.
Beautiful Fljótshlíð and Njal’s Saga sites
Fljótshlíð (5 km away) is considered one of the most beautiful areas in Iceland. From there you have a fabulous view of Eyjafjallajökull Glacier, which erupted in 2010. The area offers numerous hiking paths for young and old alike and this is where you can enjoy absolute silence and serenity while listening to the sounds of nature through trickling streams and grass blowing in the wind. Fljótshlíð and the nearby areas were the setting for Njal’s Saga, the most famous of the Icelandic Sagas. In Hvolsvöllur you will find an information centre where you can learn more about Njal’s Saga and the events that occurred in the area.
Day trips
Brú Guesthouse is a great location for day trips around South Iceland, whether you want to go east towards Eyjafjallajökull Glacier or west towards Hekla Volcano. Seljalandsfoss Waterfall (6 km) and Skógafoss Waterfall (33 km) are among Iceland’s best-known waterfalls and in Skógar you will also find an interesting history museum. Þórsmörk Valley is a unique natural wonder, located between three glaciers and very popular among hikers and other nature lovers.
