Selárdalur and the artist with the child´s heart

From Bíldudalur you can do excursions and daytrips to explore the charming Arnarfjörður area. You can drive to Selárdalur to view the unique sculptures by artist Samúel Jónsson (1884-1969), a hermit and loner. He has ben called the artist with the child’s heart and you can view many of his interesting scullputres in Selárdalur. His artwork is one of a kind.

Látrabjarg, Dynjandi and the museum at Hnjótur

The magnificent Látrabjarg cliffs are 57 km away from the guesthouse. Látrabjarg is a promonitory and the westernmost point in Iceland. The cliffs are home to millions of birds, including puffins, northern gannets, guillemots and razorbills. It is vital for their survival as it hosts up to 40% of the world population for some species. It is Europe’s largest bird cliff, 14 km long and up to 440 km high. On your way there you can stop by the museum at Hnjótur to visit the remarkable museum with artefacts from the nearby areas, objects and machines that tell the story of agriculture in the Westfjords in the 19th century. In the opposite direction the stunningly beautiful Dynjandi Waterfall is also only 60 km away from the guesthouse.
