The Cowshed Café is within walking distance and restaurant Lamb-Inn (2 km). The Christmas Garden is just a short distance away from Ásar and there you can enjoy Christmas and buy ornaments all year round. The nearest town with shops, restaurants, bars, museums and varied services for tourists: Akureyri (10 km).

 
Day trips from Ásar

Ásar is the perfect home base for those who want to explore North Iceland on day trips. You can drive to the magical Lame Mývatn area to explore natural wonders, volcanic rock formations, geothermal activity, the Mývatn Nature Baths and more (80 km). Another option is to drive to the whale watching capital of the North, Húsavík (80 km). There you can go on a whale watching tour to spot whales in their natural habitat. You can also opt for a boat excursion of Eyjafjörður Fjord to Árskógssandur, Hrísey Island and Siglufjörður town. The lovely Vaglaskógur Forest is also just a short drive away from Ásar.
