The nearest town with shops, restaurants, swimming pool, tourist information, and service: Egilsstaðir (5 km). Scheduled domestic flights between Reykjavík and Egilsstaðir (flight time around 1 hr). The ferry Norröna docks in Seyðisfjörður (32 km).

Hotel 1001 Nótt is well located for sightseeing trips and outdoor activities in the Fljótsdalur region. Hikers and outdoors enthusiasts can find a lot of interesting options for activities. Hallormsstaðaskógur Forest and Atlavík Cove are a paradise for the whole family and Skriðuklaustur makes an interesting stop for history and culture. In nice weather, a drive up to Kárahnjúkar (122 km) can be an unforgettable experience.

 
Beautiful nature in the Eastfjords

The hotel is nicely located for exploring the Eastfjords. Seyðisfjörður (39 km) is a charming fishing village under steep mountainsides, Reyðarfjörður (38 km) is also very lovely and the same goes for Eskifjörður and Neskaupsstaður. In Fáskrúðsfjörður you will find a unique museum dedicated to French sailors who had their base there in the 18th century.

 
Stórurð and Borgarfjörður Eystri

Borgarfjörður Eystri (76 km) is a popular stop for hikers, nature lovers and those who want to experience something unique and remote. The are is known for majestic mountains and extraordinary nature. Stórurð is one of East Iceland’s most illustrious spots. It lies below a small glacier west of Dyrfjöll Mountains. It consists of gigantic tuff boulders, charming meadows, and attractive ponds. Borgarfjörður Eystri offers great opportunities to spot puffins during puffin season (Apr-Sept).
