How to drive in Iceland

How to drive in Iceland

25.02.2010 | Eva Rún Michelsen

Conditions in Iceland are in many ways unusual and often quite unlike what foreign drivers are accustomed to.  It is therefore very important to find out how to drive in this country.

When thinking about booking a self drive tour or renting a car
a few questions might come to mind, such as:

  1. Are all the roads paved or may I expect gravel roads when driving around the island?
  2. Is it safe to drive during the winter?
  3. Where can I find more information about road conditions, weather forecast and sign posts?
