Dettifoss is located within Vatnajökull National Park in North East Iceland. The falls are 100 metres (330 ft) wide and have a drop of 45 metres (150 ft) down to the Jökulsárgljúfur Canyon. It is the largest waterfall in Europe in terms of volume discharge, having an average water flow of 193 m3/s.

 
 - Drive from Lake Mývatn to Vatnajökull National Park, 45-50 minutes.
 - Depending on snow and road conditions you will first visit Hafragilsfoss, a 27m high waterfall on the edge of the 120m-deep Jökulsárgljúfur Canyon.
 - 2-3 km hike from the parking lot at Dettifoss to Selfoss, an 11m high waterfall and then Dettifoss. Return to the jeep.

Tours leave daily from October 1 - June 15. 

The tour takes 4-5 hours. Departure at 10:00 from the Lake Mývatn Tourist Information Centre. Free pick-up from accommodation in the Lake Mývatn area. Possible to pick-up guests staying further afield for an additional fee.
