Víðgelmir is a lava tube situated in the Hallmundarhraun lava field. The lava field was formed during an eruption in the 10th century, originated undir the Langjökull glacier in West Iceland. Víðgelmir is 1585m long and the largest part of the cave passage is 15,8m high and 16,5m wide, making the cave by far the largest of its kind in Iceland.

We are located in Borgarfjörður near the magical place that is Húsafell in Western Iceland. From Reykjavík it takes 1:45 min to get here without stopping. On the way here you will pass some majestic and historic places that should not be missed.

Itinerary

The tour is a light stroll into the cave which has new access walkway and lights. The tour takes about 1,5 hours and is for a family to enjoy together. Guests are required to show up 15 min before tour departure.
