Öndólfsstaðir Farm Bed & Breakfast is a welcoming guesthouse located on a farm midway between Húsavík and the Lake Mývatn area, only 50 km/31 miles from Akureyri (via Vaðlaheiði tunnel). The guesthouse offers four spacious double rooms with a private bathroom. Located in an area that is great for viewing the Northern Lights, this guesthouse is perfect for those looking to enjoy the tranquility and major natural wonders of the magical Northeast of Iceland.  Open:  10 January to 15 December.

Accommodation

The accommodation is four rooms; single, double and twin rooms with an extra bed. All rooms have a private bathroom with a bathtub or shower. One of the rooms is located on the lower floor with the other three rooms located on the upper floor (not wheelchair accessible). The home at Öndólfsstaðir was built in 1950 and the four rooms were renovated in 2015. The accommodation has daily housekeeping. Laundry is available for an additional fee.

 
Board

Daily breakfast is offered. The breakfast has a variety of options with a focus on serving food directly from the farm, including fresh eggs. Packed lunches are available to guests for an additional fee. There is a restaurant and grocery store located in Laugar 3 km/2 mi away. 

 
Service and recreation

Öndólfssstaðir owners and hosts are the couple Hlynur and Abba. They strive to offer excellent and personal service to their guests. Hlynur and Abba live on the lower floor of the house and are available to guests for requests or assistance. Guests are welcome to explore around the farm and get to know the animals. The area in the nearby town of Reykjadalur is ideal for nature walks and bird watching. In the area of Laugar there is a 25 m swimming pool and hot tubs. If you are interested in horse rentals they are available at Hraunkot (33 km/21 mi from Öndólfssstaðir) and in Saltvík which is located just south of Húsavík (39 km/24 mi from Öndólfssstaðir).

 
Goðafoss, Grenjaðarstaðir and Laxárdalur

A short drive from Öndólfsstaðir across Fljótsheiði is the impressive Goðafoss Waterfall, one of the top attractions in the north of Iceland. Head 10 km/6 mi north of the guesthouse and you will come to one of the most famous turf farms in Iceland, Grenjaðarstaður. This settlement dates back to the 1800s and includes a church, post office, and rectory making it the largest collection of period buildings in the country. While in this area make a stop at Laxá River, the best known salmon fishing river in the country where the surrounding nature makes for beautiful scenery. 

 
Whale watching, sea baths and the musum of exploration in Húsavík

Húsavík is known as one of the best places to go whale watching in Iceland. With daily trips year round you can enjoy a whale watching tour to see whales in their natural habitat all while learning about their way of life. In Húsavík you will find recently opened geothermal sea baths, GeoSea, a unique experience for those who appreciate hot springs and magnificent views. Before leaving the town you may be interested in visiting the Museum of Exploration where you will find a collection of the history of land and space exploration.

 
The Magical Area of Lake Mývatn, Ásbyrgi and Jökulsárgljúfur Canyon

There are several beautiful areas near Öndólfsstaðir that are ideal day trips while staying at this guesthouse. A visit to Mývatn (30 km away) will bring a great adventure with must see stops such as Dimmuborgir, Hverfjall, Hverarönd under the Námafjall and Mývatn Nature Baths. A 50 km/31 mi drive from Mývatn is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe, Dettifoss. Another option for a day trip from Öndólfsstaðir is to visit Ásbyrgi and Jökulsárgljúfur, two areas that will make for an unforgettable experience.
