Itinerary

Day 1 | The South

Pick up your rental car upon arrival at Keflavík International Airport. Visit the Blue Lagoon for a relaxing soak on your way from the airport. Drive directly to the South inland through greenhouse village Hveragerði and Selfoss. Experience an exhilirating horse riding tour from horse rental Eldhestar or Sólhestar near Hveragerði.

Accommodation in the Gullfoss/Geysir area.

Day 2 | The 'Golden Circle'

Start the day by visiting the ancient Þingvellir National Park, where Iceland's general assembly (Alþingi) was established in 930 AD. Continue to the Geysir hot spring area to admire the spouting Strokkur and further along to the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall. Head to the South Coast and view Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and Skógafoss Waterfall along the way. The folk museum at Skogar is also well worth visiting.

Day 3 | Vatnajökull National Park

Drive to the beautiful nature resort of Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park. Walk/hike up to Svartifoss Waterfall and enjoy the contrasting scenery of black plains and gleaming glaciers.

Day 4 | The South Coast

Head for Vik village and enjoy a leisurely walk along Reynisfjörur beach. See the natural rock arch Dyrhólaey. Go on a thrilling snowmobile excursion on Mýrdalsjökull Glacier.

Day 5 | Reykjavík

Visit the coastal villages of Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki with their charming old houses and vast ocean views on the way back to Reykjavík. Enjoy excellent restaurants, great shopping, interesting museums and exciting nightlife in the city. Return your rental car in Reykjavík.
