Arrival day | The Southwest

Pick up the car at Keflavík International Airport. Visit the famous Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa for a relaxing soak in its healing waters. Continue along the scenic South Shore road to the charming villages of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri with their old houses, pretty coastline and delicous lobster. Try riding the unique Icelandic horse at nearby horse rentals Eldhestar or Sólhestar. If the skies are clear keep your eyes open for the northern lights in the evening!

Day 2 | The Golden Circle

Explore Iceland’s famous circle of wonders 'The Golden Circle'. Þingvellir National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of great historical and geological importance. You can opt to go snorkelling or diving at the Silfra fissure located here. Continue to Gullfoss Waterfall and the Geysir hot spring area to view the spouting hot spring Strokkur. You can also visit historic Skálholt, the sustainable community at Sólheimar or try the natural steam baths at the Laugarvatn Fontana Spa.

Day 3 | The South Coast

Head further east, through the rolling meadows of South Iceland, the setting of one of the most popular Icelandic sagas, Njal's Saga. View - and perhaps walk behind - the beautiful Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. Visit the interesting folk museum and majestic waterfall at Skógar. Check out the Eyjafjallajökull Visitor Centre (advance bookings in winter), a museum dedicated to the notorious volcanic eruption of 2010. Walk along the black volcanic beaches of the South Coast. Glacier tours are available in the area whether by foot, snowmobile or jeep. If you are up for a longer drive you can continue all the way to the spectacular Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in the Southeast.

Day 4 | Departure

Head back to Reykjavík or Keflavík International Airport depending on your schedule.
