This short break self-drive tour takes you along the beautiful South Coast. Explore some of Iceland's most precious natural attractions, the Golden Circle: Þingvellir National Park, the spouting Geysir and the powerful Gullfoss waterfall. Pick up your rental car at Keflavík airport upon arrival. Enjoy life in Iceland's capital city, where you can find excellent restaurants, design boutiques, a vibrant cultural scene and exciting nightlife. Accommodation in Reykjavik.
Head east to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of great historic and geological importance. Continue to the Geysir hot spring area to view the erupting Strokkur and nearby Gullfoss Waterfall. Take a one hour tour on the Icelandic horse. Both for absolute beginners and more experienced suitable for anyone who wants a taste of how it is to ride the Icelandic horse. Take a dip in the Secret Lagoon, the oldest outdoor pool in Iceland which has been renovated it is in the geothermal area near Fluðir. Accommodation in South Iceland.
Continue through the farmlands of South Iceland, visit the amazing Lava center (optional) to the beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Visit Skógar with its magnificent waterfall and interesting folk museum, see the Dyrhólaey stone arch and the black sand beach near Vík. A 4 – 5 hour glacial walk to Sólheimajökull glacier or a snow mobile tour to Mýrdalsjökull glacier would be a excellent idea. In the evening, try to find a spot where the sky is clear, if you are lucky you might spot the northern lights! Accommodation in South Iceland.
Head back towards Keflavik International Airport. If you have time, you should stop by the charming coastal villages Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri. There you will find interesting museums and restaurants well worth visiting. Don’t miss the amazing Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa for a relaxing soak on your way to the airport. Please make sure you reserve the admission to the Blue Lagoon in advance though.
