Winter break in West Iceland is a great way to enjoy all the best Iceland has to offer. The area is characterised by stunning nature with fjords, waterfalls, glaciers and small villages enriched with history. The guided tour explores the gems of the area, Snæfellsnes peninsula and Thingvellir National Park.  Available from February to April 2017. German speaking guide. Small groups, maximum 12 person per tour.

Day 1 | Thingvellir National Park - Borgarfjörður

The tour sets off from Reykjavík with pick-up between 08:00 - 08.45. We drive to to Thingvellir National Park, one of the most important sites to visit in Iceland for its history, culture value and landscape.

From there we will drive to Hvalfjörður and stop at Bjarteyjarsandur farm and meet the owners who have successfully entwined farming and tourism with sustainability in the forefront. At the farm, we will get an introduction to local treats and taste and lunch.

In the afternoon we visit the powerful hot spring Deildartunguhver and Steðji Brewery, a newly established micro-brewery in Borgarfjörður district.

The day ends with an overnight stay and dinner at Hraunsnef; a family run country hotel set in beautiful surroundings. We will meet a member of the family who will tell us about life in the countryside and local elf folklores!

Day 2 | Snæfellsnes peninsula – Stykkishólmur - Djúpálónssandur

We begin the day with a stop at Erpsstaðir, a dairy farm located in a beautiful and tranquil environment in Dalir region. We will meet the farmer, learn about the farm and taste his famous ice-cream, cheese and skyr products. From there we will drive the northern coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula to the charming Stykkishólmur village. The peninsula is 90 km long and comprises a world of diversity with spectacular mountains, friendly towns and villages.

After lunch, we will explore the villages Grundafjörður and Ólafsvík before heading to Djúpálónssandur, a beautiful black beach.

The day ends with an overnight stay and dinner at Langholt, a family owned guesthouse that offers a magnificent view of the mysterious Snæfellsjökull Glacier. In the evening, the owner will tell us about life in the countryside and the surrounding area.

Day 3 | Borgarnes – Húsafell – Into the Glacier – Reykjavík

First stop is in Borgarnes village to visit the Settlement Center. From there we explore two beautiful waterfalls in the area, Hraunfossar and Barnafossar waterfalls aswell as visit Húsafell.

Into the glacier - Optional is to join a super-bus tour* from Húsafell to explore the magnificent Langjökull Glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland, and walk inside a unique man-made ice cave tunnel.

From Húsafell we drive back to Reykjavík, where the tour ends in the afternoon.

*participant for the optional glacier tour will say farewell to their tour guide at Húsafell and take another transfer (English speaking guide) back to Reykjavík.
