Local Farm Visit | Hey Iceland farms

Come meet the locals and gain first-hand experience of Icelandic farm life. Interact with farm animals and get an insight into life in the countryside. This is a unique experience that you can only get on a real farm. Each farm is unique and depending on which farm you visit, you might get to meet some sheep, cows, goats, horses, dogs, rabbits, hens, and more. Others farm vegetables, grains, or forests.

You might also be introduced to local handicraft or food production and learn how artistic and innovative Icelandic farmers are. Perhaps the farmer will share with you some stories about is farm, region or family history that will give you a deeper look into Iceland's history and culture. Available all year.

Fun fact: Did you know that there are approximately 800,000 sheep in Iceland? This is well over two times the number of people in the country. Their wool is used to create unique handicrafts and their meat is featured in almost all traditional dishes that do not have fish.

Fun fact: Did you know that the Icelandic horse is a very strong and sturdy worker despite its small stature? They are also very charismatic, friendly and have a very gentle personality.

  • The farm visits differ from one farm to another depending on what they farm and what farm animals they have. We will find the perfect farm for you, that fits into your itinerary and gives you the best possible experience. In some farms, you will be able to get up-close and personal with the animals, while others focus more on local produce or stories from the farmer. Some will even invite you to a cup of coffee and Icelandic pancakes.
