Tranquillity in the capital area and sightseeing around southwest Iceland
Hliðsnes is an ideal place for anyone who wants to spend a few days enjoying Reykjavík’s attractions but would prefer to stay a little bit outside the hustle and bustle of the city. It is situated on the tip of a narrow peninsula with the ocean on one side and an ocean connected pond on the other. There is a fantastic view in all directions and vivid birdlife with nesting grounds for 25 species and regular sightings of over 40 species. A birdwatchers paradise. There is a beachfront, large empty fields and a playground for children. Nice walks. Aurora Borealis (Northern lights) and starry skies in the wintertime. It’s also an excellent base for sightseeing tours around southwest Iceland and day tours around Reykjanes peninsula, with attractions including the world famous Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa, the town of Grindavík, and from there along the south coast of the peninsula to Krýsuvík. It is also less than an hour’s drive to Þingvellir NationalPark and 1.5 hours to Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area, all must-sees for any visitor to Iceland.
