Accommodation

Keldudalur offers three cottage-style apartments, ideal for families and small groups. The Gestahús house has two apartments; a spacious and well equipped apartment on the upper floor with two double bedrooms, a sleeping loft, living room, kitchenette, TV and DVD, washing machine and veranda with garden furniture and a coal barbecue. The lower floor apartment has two bedrooms. One with a double bed and a small living room with TV and the other with a bunk bed and cooking facilities. Each floor has a private entrance and a bathroom with shower. Wardrobes are in all rooms in both apartments. The apartments can be rented together or seperately. The Leifshús house has three bedrooms on two floors (for 8 people.). On the ground floor there is a kitchen, dining room, two twin bedrooms and two bathrooms. On the upper floor there is a spacious bedroom with 4 beds and a spacious living room with possibilities for extra beds. Spacious veranda with hot tub and BBQ facilities.

 
Leisure activities and services

Guests are welcome to watch the farmers at work. There are many good walking and hiking trails in the neighbourhood and opportunities for bird watching. Sauðárkrókur (14 km) is the nearest town, where you can find horse rentals, a 9-hole golf course, shops and all the usual services. Skiing is possible in winter on Mt. Tindastóll just north of town. During summer river rafting tours suitable for all abilities are offered on the glacial river Jökulsá vestari.

 
A working farm in beautiful countryside

Keldudalur is situated southerly on a low but wide ridge called Hegranes, which divides the lowland at the head of Skagafjörður fjord. The surrounding countryside is very pleasant and ideal for long or short walks. The view from Keldudalur is stunning and the area is also ideal for birdwatching. Guests are welcome to enter the barn and watch the cows being milked.

 
Bishops and emigrants

Hólar (30 km) is one of Iceland‘s most significant historic and cultural centres, a former bishopric of the North from 1106 to 1798. The country's oldest stone church, which was concecrated in 1763, still stands. There is an interesting museum at Hofsós, a village out by the fjord on the east side, with exhibits on the emigration from Iceland to North America in the second half of the 19th century. There is also a geothermal infinity pool in Hofsós with excellent views over the fjord.

 
Heritage museum and romantic valleys

Glaumbær (30 km) is a heritage museum in a large traditional Icelandic turf house, like the most stately ones that existed in the second half of the 19th century in many parts of the country. Here you have the opportunity to experience daily life in Iceland as it was prior to modern times. If you drive further inland (south) you enter an area of Skagafjörður which is very peaceful and ideal for outdoor pursuits.
