Seems not to be an eruption in Katla

Seems not to be an eruption in Katla

09.07.2011 | Oddný Björg Halldórsdóttir

A glacial flood from volcanoe Katla in Mýrdalsjökull, has disrupted the highway no.1 (the ring road), by river Múlakvísl on Mýrdalssandur in the South of Iceland.  The bridge over Múlakvísl is gone, it was an 128 meters long and built in 1990. Scientists couldn't see any sights of eruption in Katla however when they flew over Katla crater few minutes ago. The road Fjallabaksleið nyrðri is open for jeeps only, and is the only open road in the area.  We will of course do our utmost to assist our travellers in Iceland and ask people to stay calm.
