Day 1 and 2 | The South
Places of interest: Þingvellir National park. 4 – 5 hour hiking in Hengill and Nesjavellir geothermal areas. Gullfoss Waterfall and Geysir hot spring area are not to be missed. An hour's walk by Skógará river towards Fimmvörðuháls or a hike to Þríhyrningur near Hvolsvöllur for a great view over Eyjafjallajökull Glacier. Day 3 and 4 | Borgarfjörður area
Places of interest: Take a brisk walk up to Glymur, the highest waterfall in Iceland or walk up to Grábrók, a 173 m wide crater that was formed in a fissure eruption less than 3,000 years ago. Instead of hiking, there is the possibility of travelling up to Snaefellsnes Peninsula for a boat trip around Breiðafjörður bay to view the interesting bird life. Day 5 and 6 | The North
Places of interest: Hike Þórðarhöfði, considered to be the remains of a very old and large extinct volcano. Visit the hidden gem Kolugljúfur Canyon, bathe in the pool Grettislaug (connected to the character Grettir from the old Sagas). Hike Mt. Tindastóll by Sauðárkrókur town. River rafting class II and IIII is offered in Skagafjörður. Accommodation for two nights in Skagafjörður. | |
Day 7 | Reykjavik
The many outdoor swimming pools in Reykjavik are a fantastic option and the Blue Lagoon is a must for every traveller. For city sightseeing we recommend the “Hop on, Hop off” bus. Accommodation in Reykjavík by your choice (optional). | |
